Ego?!??? Yeah, he's a lead singer and front man- it comes with the territory!
It's called swagger. What did you expect? All great front men have it, hence the LSD dig (lead singer disease): Jagger, Plant, Mercury, Lennon, D.L.R., Bono.....Christ, even Sinatra had it. One man's idol is another man's asshole.
