On the occasion of Good Friday, 10 April 2009, I am proud to present brilliant pianist Valentina Lisitsa playing Schumann's romantic and peaceful treasure 'Träumerei' from 'Kinderszenen'. I filmed and recorded Valentina's playing on the occasion of an interview I did with her on 2 April 2009 in London, see also my weblog message http://www.tonalties.nl/wordpress/?p=307
I filmed the complete interview and apart from Träumerei' she also played four Rachmaninoff preludes.
It was awesome and like a dream coming true to meet and interview Valentina. She's not only one of today's most brilliant musicians, but also a wonderful person.
Here Valentina plays on a Steinway & Sons grand here from a music school in London, an instrument that evryone plays on and that misses the sophisticated sound of her own magical Bösendorfer. When you take this into account one can only admire her even more for what she achieves here in Schumann's 'Träumerei'.
I consider a presentation of this peaceful Schumann piece very suitable for the occasion of Easter. Enjoy!

All my Gratitude to Valentina and her husband Alexei for making this possible!

Peace & Love for Everyone! Happy Easter!

  • Valentina plays this uncomplicated composition so beautifully. She can also thunder out superb and detailed virtuosity over a full orchestra; superb musical mastery.

Very much like the last few seconds where we get to see her shy and very honest character. What a wonderful artist!

  • she's not lucky.. she worked hard to be here...

  • @Vije4ka Собственно что плохо с точки зрения представителя настоящей московской школы, позвольте узнать.

  • Can't stop watching Valentina's playing.

  • Sooooooooooooo BEAUTIFUL!!!! I am so glad that Valentina does not ignore the most simple musical compositions as many times they are the greatest pieces of music ever written for piano or any instrument.

  • Oh Valentina, why are you the only artist that when you play you make me cry. You have a gift from heaven.

  • If ever you want to see an artist totally immersed in her craft, this is it. Beautiful interpretation of this piece.

  • SHE IS BRILLIANT!

  • Many of the comments state that this is an uncomplicated or easy piece but I, being a pianist for some time can say that this is one of the most difficult ones by Schumann since a marvelous performance is so hard to be achieved. It's a phrase that expresses both love and tranquillity and the interpretation of Valentina Lisitsa is a one of a kind.

    Anyway, COOOOOOOOOOL!

  • This playing was very light and fluffy :)

  • а это объективно плохо.Любой представитель настоящей Московской школы только улыбнулся бы )))

  • I think I just witnessed something special ??

    Hendrix had his guitar ...

    Armstrong had his trumpet ...

    Valentina has her piano ......

The passion she shows for the piece is out of this world .....a superb portrayal .....
