I've recently become interested in listening to Hawaiian slack key guitar and so I thought I'd have a first go at something reasonably simple.

This version of "La Paloma" is played in the Hawaiian style as performed by the Hawaiian Master Ray Kane (pronounced Kahnay) and tabbed out by Mark Hanson in his excellent book "Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key". It brings together the marked Spanish influence in Slack Key guitar and is great as a starter piece. It is in Taro Patch tuning (or open G to non-Hawaiians) and makes lots of use parallel thirds.

If I continue with this, I will HAVE to buy myself a colourful Hawaiian shirt! You cannot play this kind of music on a dull Northern European late autumnal day without using a few props to remind you of sunnier climes.
