Yes babys born with downs is due to an extra copy of the 21st chromozone. its a genetic thing has nothing to do with prematurity.

Babies don't just become downsyndrome babies part way through the pregnancy. If they're going to have it, they're going to have it from the get go.

@chelbaker we were told my nephew was speech delayed however he is now over 2 years and talking up a storm without any professional help. just family members talking to him all the time. how is your little guy now?

bless:) a baby cant catch downsyndrome for godsake lol, it happens from the min u conceive! and this has nothing to do with there baby being born early there is nothing controlling when ur baby wants to be welcomed into the world they decide this:D!

He was perfect developmentally, walking, eating, gross and fine motor skills. He's just recently been identified with a speech delay, so he'll be getting into early intervention soon. But he's only 16 months, so it's still early for any real concern.

He weighed 3 lbs 6 oz and was 15.5 inches long.
He is now 17 pounds at 11.5 months, and just about to grow out of the 6-9 months. So he's a little little, but not much. It is amazing just how perfect and tiny they are at this point.
Congrats to you and my prayers for a healthy baby and safe delivery.
