  • I realize that the era is a bit wrong but the mouthpiece looks a bit like a Monette. Probably a Con or Holton though.

  • The mouthpiece is a Ferguson-Bell Limited. These were made in the 60's, and pop up on ebay frequently.

  • anyone know the mouthpiece he's on during this time? Conn?

  • Not a Conn. It's a collaboration between MF and Jack Bell. FBL for Ferguson-Bell Limited. They were built and marketed when MF was living in England, during the mid to late sixties. They occasionally pop up on ebay.

  • never in all perfonmances have i seen him miss that last note!! wow the concentration!! unbelievable!

  • @brian740 the mouthpice is marcinkiewicz they still sell them look them up in their site! :)

  • It's interesting that MF had to go to Yugoslavia to get such a terrrific performance on TV. Shame.

  • Umm, is that a drink in his hand?

  • I'm agree with you : they have few problems on the first notes but the rest of time is pretty good. It's sad that the clip ends after the cadenza and we can't hear the solo on the second "vamp section" (on brass riff 5.17...) and the closing part with stratospheric ending notes. I just buyed some days ago an Eric Miyashiro's album ("Pleiades") with really good cover of "Ole" and other tunes of Maynard's songbook (some of them were played in concert by the Boss but never recorded)

  • I don't agree that the band "sucked". The trumpets stumbled on the first couple of notes. Okay, it happens. They sounded fine on the rest of it. Would love to hear the rest of this.

  • the band sucked, and MF looked a little irritated

  • i used this mp and its hard work only MF CAN MAKE A DECENT SOUND WITH IT I TELL YOU

  • The trumpets in the orchestra sounded sick in their entrance at the very beginning of the piece.

  • He made that trumpet sing! What a showman and musician. Amazing how as he got older, his music touched such young audiences.

  • HA! I love how he stops to get a drink and then picks out a double C. Only he could do that.

  • The One And Only. Still miss him.

  • Drummer Randy Jones was touring with Maynard in the early 70s when I heard Maynard for the first time. I have never seen any videos of this band. This was the record with "give it one" I believe Randy left Maynards band and joined Dave Brubeks band and he is still with Dave.

  • Fire!!

  • I've been a MF fan for a long time and the youtube videos of him are awsome.
