What is it about Americans and the word socialist they invoke it like as mantra to shut down further conversation and tag an opponent with the mark of cane. A knee jerk reaction. This is a very George Orwellian trait (recall big brothers goals reduce opposition by owning the meaning of words). Human beings are social creatures many needs in common fighting wars building roads etc.. healthcare is one of these needs. USA learn from others who have crossed the Rubicon. Think properly

I was thinking about what circumstances lead to a need medical services.
1)Contagious like flu
2)Inherited DNA like some breast cancers and late onset Parkinsons etc
3)Misadventure road accidents victim of crime
4)Lifestyle environment passive pollution
5)Lifestyle self inflicted smoking, drug addiction, obesity
Only one of these is brought about my actions and yet I dont have the choice of if I need to purchase them or can I pick and choose. Govt only entity capable of helping

The comment by Gooseo about babies in the UK being born in hallways because there are no rooms is a prime example of the "downright lies" that I was referring to in my previous posting.

Thank you Gooseo for proving my point.

Goose... you say We dont have waiting lists, lines , What do you think lack of health insurance is but line management force? These lines are not visible like 1930s soup lines but they exist all the same.. As to babies being born in hallways are you a total muppet? ... Turn the local TV news almost every night they lead with some god awful story wretched young woman abandoning babies in dumpsters.,. do you actually think before you write things? get a grip..

Women abandoning their babies is a wretchedly poor analogy. These women are not seeking medical attention and are trying to hide the fact that they had a baby. No ER in America can turn away a pregnant woman regardless of their insurance situation. Ditching your baby of your own volition is one thing, not having suitable facilities to birth because of govt rationing is completely another.

USA Health care apartheid needs to end. One way to begin and make crystal clear the scale and nature of the problem is to take away all health insurance from US Govt employees and elected representatives along with any tax advantages to commercial companies for providing company sponsored coverage. This will bring two critical classes into the debate which can effect change. a couple of months without coverage will bring a sober understanding of the problem as it will now be theirs as well.

Given that 47 million Americans have no Health Insurance tangible evidence there is not good access to medical services. USA model is to ration by ability to pay... by definition restricting access... the lower the price the more sold. American is the master of distribution look at Wal-Mart. Did you have trouble with Econ 101 at college? Labeling something as propaganda is just a lazy way of answering and in the case of PBS plain incorrect. Do you listen to talk radio?

That 47 million is complete misdirection. Most of them are either rich and can afford their own insurance, young and dont want it, or illegal aliens and shouldnt get it. The real number is more like 11 million and that is because medicaid and states cant cover them because of the cost. Of coarse people should be expected to take care of themselves and not the govt! At least with talk radio, they go out of business if they lie. PBS is propped up by govt who loves lies if they r doing it.
