@TokioHotelLova483 You really didn't get the song, did you?

@redgrayghost exactly...

@redgrayghost Yes, I get the feeling that it's about a one sided abusive relationship. He's used his status as a member of the upper-class to pick out a girl from the lower order, using her lack of power and education to control her and ultimately cajole her into a suicide pact. Maybe it is just a song about doomed lovers, but I don't think so.

@redgrayghost I'm not sure that's what's its about. No disrespect or anything, but the song is about two loves. He found her the labor camps, and rescued her. They knew their love would be forbidden, so they commit suicide. :) XOXO-Umbreon

Okay, i know ill get attacked for saying this but listen to the lyrics... This song is totally about rape and murder.
"while your head is spinning, hold tight its just beginning"
"I laid you down in the grass of a clearing, YOU WEPT BUT YOUR SOUL WAS WILLING"
"And while the seagulls are crying, we fall but our souls are flying" Im not one to read to deep into the song, but ive listened to this one enough that i cant help it

I wish everyone would stop taking my post out of context. I never said that The Decemberists were before R.E.M. and I never said R.E.M. wasn't good. I just said that they ARE NOT the same bands and SHOULD NOT be compared to one another. It's a simple fact, you don't compare something to a completely different thing. Dear Lord you people are so testy.
