'Parallel Lives' is about a young man off to see friends, but before he leaves his home he has to make a choice, one ends in tragedy the other a fun afternoon. The film delivers it's message with great precision - that carrying a knife is statistically more dangerous than not carrying one, the choice is yours - Rhys Manley and Sam Robbins aka Half a Banana creators of Parallel Lives, which won the Guns/Knives Category of Sharp Shotz Animation Competition 2008/9
The film was animated by Iwan Vaughan, Justin Hopes, Tom Gran, Andreas Niklas under the guidance of Half a Banana, University of the West of England and Aardman Animations
The title track - 'Last Breath' written and performed by Mr Rightvibe, the winner for the Guns/Knives category of Sharp Shotz Unsigned, music competition
Sharp Shotz Animation and Music competitions seek to increase the skills of young people, understanding of issues such as drug, alcohol and violence, and promote positive activities.

  • His first mistake was brandishing the knife, not carrying it.

I understand what you're trying to convey, but I cannot sympathise with this character. A normal kid would carry a knife for his own protection, not to start fights with strangers.

  • srsly this kid needs to meet bruce lee

  • Rhys and sam are in my school, sams in my maths group, whats th song at the end?

  • actually this was for a competition outside of UWE. I might apply there this year? does anyone know if its a really good place to do animation. I'm also applying for the illustration/animation course at kingston, my tutors seem pretty confident i'll get in so fingers crossed :)

  • Very good, Very powerful

  • Its pretty damn funny when you see all the smiling faces in the bottom screen while some guys knifing someone on the top. xD

Good ad, although Im sort of wondering why the only thing he had in his drawer was a knife, and on top of that his more safe thinking self didn't intend to use it?

  • better than the knife vids that are on tv

    5/5

  • "His first mistake was brandishing the knife, not carrying it."

No, no, no. Are you serious? How can the first mistake be brandishing it? OF COURSE the first mistake is carrying it. He wasn't "starting a fight with a stranger". The meathead bumped into him and his reaction, instead of walking away, was to try "defending" himself with a blade. The ultimate message is "carry it, and it will inevitably come out - and you'll get stabbed, whether it's your blade or his."

    You've missed the point...

  • Firstly thank you for watching the film. I think what the young people who wrote this were putting across which I think you have missed is that the act of carrying the knife and the decisions behind it place people in a different mind set so when an event such as someone knocking into you happens, how you deal with it is different dependent on whether you are carrying a weapon or not

  • Wow;

Does anyone know the name of this song?-

  • wow. powerful stuff.

  • LMAO
