Tlahoun Gèssèssè, pour le public éthiopien, c'est LA VOIX personnifiée. Plus encore que Mahmoud Ahmed, Alèmayèhu Eshèté ou Mulatu Astatqé, c'est l'icône absolue et insurpassable de tout un pays. La puissance phénoménale et innée de ses talents vocaux est au service de titres modernistes qui donnent une idée du groove qui a dominé la scène ethiopienne dans les années 70. Les arrangements, brillants et novateurs, sont de Mulatu Astatqé, (cf Ethiopiques 4: «Ethiojazz»), l'accompagnement est assuré par le « Body Guard Band» ou «L'Army Band». Une fois encore, cet immense artiste démontre qu'il faut reconsidérer l'histoire générale des musiques modernes d'Afrique à la lumière du gisement éthiopien.
To Ethiopian audiences, Tlahoun Gèssèssè is THE VOICE, even more so than Mahmoud Ahmed, Alèmayèhu Eshèté or Mulatu Astatqé. Endowed with a phenomenal, innate vocal talent, he has been the asbsolute and unequalled icon for an entire country since the fifties, heading up the list of Ethiopian discography. Based around seven 'modernist' pieces arranged by the brilliant and innovative Mulatu Astatqé (Ethiopiques 4: «Ethiojazz»), these first Ethiopiques devoted to Talhoun Gèssèssè also present ten other songs accompanied by musicians from the Ethiopian institutional bands: the Army Band, the Exhibition Band, the Police Orchestra, the Body Guard Band. Another CD gathering together all his vynil recordings with the Imperial Body Guard Band is scheduled for upcoming Ethiopiques...

totally amazing voice over great structured music.. bought this a couple of years ago in a record fair in Australia and go back to it time and time again.. tlahoun was a great musician...
