In 2001, Laurie Anderson was awarded by the Tenco Prize (Premio Tenco) for songwriting in San Remo. She also performed a set of songs at the ceremony.

'Beginning French' was on Part Two of Laurie's magnum opus 'United States Live' (released in 1984), and it was re-recorded for the 'Live at Town Hall: New York City, September 19--20, 2001' album as well. In San Remo, Laurie told the Italian translation of the anecdote, which lead without intermission into

'O Superman', Laurie's apocalyptic song originally written in the beginning of the 1980s. At the time of this performance (October 2001) the song bore an eerie relevance to the then recent events in New York.
