I thought PAL was and alway has been a more superior system with more lines per screen producing a more natural colour requiring less 'manipulation' unlike the washed out NTSC colours. Anyway with up to 120 countries using PAL or its deritives it was the dominant system.

  • @TelevisionAU: I believe this was the first "modern" colour program, as it used PAL. ATV Channel 0 used an experimental NTSC system in 1967. Since 0/10's system wasn't compatible with the standard used when regular colour broadcasts started in 1975, it probably didn't "count" in the eyes of Nine.

Not sure what the reasoning was with Oz switching from NTSC to PAL. Australia went with PAL perhaps to stay in line with its "mother" country of the UK. NTSC is used in North America and Japan.

  • TV in Australia wouldn't get 100% color until 1974-1975.

  • WHY. IS. THIS. NOT. DOCUMENTED.

  • Wow, this clip is amazing. A real piece of history. Look how far we've come. All thanks to the legends and pioneers of TV.

  • Can You Upload it Full?

  • wow what a gem! Although first program in colour in Australia they say? I think ATV0/10 might have queried that claim? But nevertheless a great piece of TV history here. Thanks for sharing.
