(pls look at same cake in another video to see it with better lighting) My first try for a topsy turvy cake. Magic themed party - i used gumpaste for the figures...tons of luster dust (haha)...and edible markers for the detail on the hankies' edge...
Really BAD lighting as usual-- colors are MUCH brighter than this!

  • how do you transport a cake like? Do you just assemble on site?

  • this one gets transported already completed

  • Hi Mayen, thank you so much for your beautiful cake. I try to use luster dust from Wilton for the first time. It was a mustard colored. I dipped my brush into a little vodka and then into the luster dust. The luster dust did not mix well at all and my cookies that I painted with the luster dust did not adhere to the cookies. Can you tell ne what I did wrong? I also tried the gel and it worked a little better but did not get the results I wanted can you help! Thank you so much

  • hi there-- if yo are just dipping the brush into vodka then into the dry powder you can encounter problems - you have to mix it into a paint like consistency first-- and then brush it on. ihave a short video here on that too. using the gel-- can work that way if youare painting very small details.

  • so nice! :) if you don't mind me asking, are the box tops made of fondant or gumpaste? and did you dowel through the entire cake or just between layers?

  • i had to dowel through the whole cake... and also dowel under each tier for support. the box lids were made of cardboard covered with fondant. I premeasured the place where i will place the dowels so i did not have to poke through it while the cake is already there
