2nd match from my Day ONE coverage features ozeki Kotooshu taking on newly promoted sekiwake Kisenosato.

Kotooshu had a great tourney in July in Nagoya, ending with a 13-2 record, while Kiesnosato just missed double-digit wins with a 9-6 record.

Enjoy!

  • That particle "no" is not "possessive" in this instance. It's more "descriptive." It's to indicate a person's profession/line of work, rank, etc. (or time, place, amount, material and so on.) For instance,

Jason no seito tachi. (Jason's students: possesive.) Boku no shougakkou. (My elementary school: possessive.) Yaoya no ojisan. (A man who is a grocer: descriptive.) Tokyo no natsu. (Summertime in Tokyo: descriptive.) Kawa no jaketto. (A leather jacket: descriptive.) Yokozuna no Asashoryu...

  • cool - thanks for the info

  • Since there are a lot of videos featuring the Japanese commentary on youtube, English commentary would be nice.

  • I think it's gonna end up being a mix for this tourney - I'll feature English when I can catch the matches live, and the Japanese commentary when I watch the taped footage

  • Wow, Aki Tourney started already? I always miss the 1st day because I forget which one is the middle Sunday of the month.

Hope Kotooshu can make another run for the cup this time.

Finally, I miss the English commentary (for whatever reason), why don't they have the English dubbing available in US of all places? But any commentary will suffice.

  • I figured out how to do the English commentary, so it'll appear on the rest of the vids starting tomorrow.

  • Jason, the Japanese commentary is good. Thanks.

  • japanese is cool because they are really excited when something happens :D

  • Yes, I enjoy hearing the Japanese announcers.

  • I like hearing the Japanese, especially for the crowd reactions :) I like hearing it while you're doing the commentary in English ^_^

  • Hi, Jason.

    Thanks, obviously!

Put all your nihon-go kmowledge to good use, because -- as they say around this place -- for me Japanese is sheer greek.

  • Hi Jason,

    Welcome back to the Sumo.

The Japanese commentary is OK in my opinion and it is better to leave more of the match not only the bout. Me personally have nothing against watching them throw the salt, if you have not watched the match it like watching it live or just pretend so ;-)

  • Thank you sooo much for this! and welcome back to the States!
