I live in Australia, & we have nothing like this!!. Sure we have plenty of steam action during the spring/summer months between September & February, but nothing like this on a narrow gauge railway. We do have standard gauge mainline action in April, namely the Maitland Steamfest in New South Wales. It's worth a visit if you come down to Australia. Please check out our rail museum sites. You'd be most welcomed by us steam-mad Aussies. Cheers.

Brings back good memories. Took the family on a ride from Antonito to Osier and back this summer. Love riding that narrow guage steam. Now I need to figure out how to get a ride on the 844 or the Challenger.

@SierraRailway ummmm just to throw my 2 cents in, this train has a lead loco with 2 mid train helpers.... I think we are all just giddy with this great video. I have to get there very soon myself. :)

@MajSolo What, no microwave ovens in Sweden? Pop down to Ikea and get one....

You are right! and this indeed is a 4% grade going up to Cumbres Pass east out of Chama

its always good for one to get some steel underfoot. Another railroader foaming before he goes to work tomorrow
Actually SkipW, the term in the title would be 3 mid-train helpers, not a triple header, cuz the engines aren't all at the front of the train. It's a common mistake, but then you don't see too many mid-train helpers anymore.

I stand corrected, not thinking correctly as I had a bad case of Narrow gauge steam fever

now why can't all the other train videos be like this; the rest all have crappy narrations instead of hearing the locomotives and the signals. 5/5!

Thanks glad you enjoyed it, I figured if your watching the RR lines on the inet you have allready researched them on google earth, wikipedia, books & magazines. So You just have to see and hear them Steam On down the Line!

Also, if I understand it right, white smoke is when the coal is burning right (hot), black smoke not ideal, grey is ok. You can see each of the engines go through these temperature stages if you watch the entire video. At one point I saw one of the engines was so hot the plume was colorless and the emergency exhaust valve was constantly wide open. :))
