How to pick up your fallen rider without messing up the whole lake. Pick up like a Pro. Don't Powerturn like a Muppet - gain respect for considerate driving and keep the water flat for everyone. Not only does this way make you look cooler, you will have a safer session, you rider and passengers will have a smoother ride and you will save a lot of fuel.

  • I agree with the video 100%. I get so sick of idiots who have no clue on the lake. I go back in a cove and the next thing I see is stinking tubers cutting donuts and cutting across the back of my wake. Really ticks you off when you have some smooth wakeboarding water.

  • Thanks for your comments - I am glad you agree - not some some others who have replied!

We aren't good riders yet, but we realise why smooth water is so important. I can't see why everyone else doesn't get it? I've seen people who powerturn in an empty stretch of water and ruin it for themselves - they just don't know any better.

  • The point of the video is to show beginners how to pick up dropped a skiier, smoothly without running over them. The point I am trying to make is the smoothness of the water is negligle caused by the added wake.

Never have I said "use powerturns", read. I am just saying it better to go a bit faster, than slower as you progress, despite what you think it doesnt cause that much chop/problems, besides etiquette dictates 1 skiier/calm spot, so it shouldnt be a problem anyway, i.e. take turns.

  • No. The point of MY film is show people that there is an alternative to throwing up rollers.

The 1skier/ calm spot thing is bollocks - we pass boats (yachts, fishing boats etc) all the time. The problems come we some fool throws a hard turn because the rollers run all the way up and down the lake.

Also your comment about the added wake not affecting the smoothness is crap. Ballast = big wake = big rollers if you do it wrong.

I suggest you go away and try it before you comment again.

  • The point of this film is to show people that there is a better way to scoop your rider than a powerturn. There are people who don't know any better - we've all seen them.

If your situation calls for a bit more speed then that's fine, but doing it this way, without making a load of waves, your rider will be up riding just as soon with smoother water too.

  • Thank Goodness somebody actually made a video like this. Where do you guys ride? I'm from MN

And as far as wic0929 is concerned... he must be a bass fisherman...

  • Thanks. We ride in Poole Harbour on the south coast of England. It's not actually a lake but a large natural harbour, so there are fishing boats, yachts and cruisers using the water. There is a 10 knot speed limit in the harbour except for the 2km ski area at the far side of the harbour and you have to have a permit in order to ride.

  • powerturns rule!

  • I own a slalom boat, smooth water is the best. We HAVE to powerturn at the end of our course, but nothing is worse than the guy who plows by when we're doing our passes. Thanks for "slowing down" asshole.

  • Great video...thanks for posting. Spread the word and the water will be smoother all over!

It's always easy for me to tell on the lake those who ride a lot and know what they are doing simply by how they drive. If you care about the water and enjoy it - here's the first thing you need to learn.

  • This is also a useful technique for wakesurfing! Espcially if you don't want to beat the shit out of your hull!

  • not good riders u guys are awesome

  • you are supposed to make a big turn and go back on your own wake, to follow the path that leads you to your skiier, lines him up on your right side of the boat even. I was taught this by a tournament driver, my dad kruger's wife use the same method (ski jumper only will jump if wife drives), its an old technique and its supposed minimize time loose and turbulence.

  • I think you are confused A power turn is a turn with short arc, but hi velocity and accel, almost capisizes the boat, one of the reasons to avoid them.
