I was 9. I lived in Norwalk at the time and I remember that day vividly, even 23 years later. I had just got to school and if we got there before 7:50 we were to stay in the cafetorium (for those who don't know, cafeteria and auditorium). I felt the damn thing coming. There was a slight gentle movement and then a huge jolt. One of the scariest moments of my life. Calchick, I second your comment. He and Nance got a lot of flack for being human. You can see they were both scared to death.

Really? (I don't remember it, I was a kid). I can't believe he was given trouble for that, he did absolutely nothing wrong!!!! Boy famous people/t.v. people can't get a break.

Wow...you don't see that everyday.
Poor Kent Shocknek...he always got so much flak for doing what he did during that earthquake, but he(and weathercaster at the time Christopher Nance)were doing what they felt they needed to do and they were being real. Shocknek was accused of scaring viewers because he was supposed to be presenting a calm demeanor, but going under the desk was the right thing to do, and it reminded viewers that during a quake, getting under a desk("duck and cover") or something similar was what one needed to do.

I love it! I lived in Van Nuys at the time, and happened to be watching live while the earthquakes were going on. :-D As I lived on the 8th (top) floor of an apartment building that was rocking like crazy, I remember being oddly relieved by the sheer silliness and humanness of everyone's reactions. Laughing out loud at Kent from the doorway where I was huddled. Still to this day, one of the funnier moments in my life, in the midst of fear, laughter. Thanks Kent & Christopher!
