A montage of poor quality footage and photos of Wimbledon FC's 4-2.victory over Sutton United in the 1963 FA Amateur Cup. I was there with my Father and my Brother. In fact I first started following Wimbledon FC in 1961 and was ever present at games until I emigrated to Australia with my wife in 1981. The music may sound corny but it is exactly the type of music (marches etc)that used to be played at Plough Lane during the sixties !!

  • I have a great film of Tooting v. Bournemouth in 1958 and Ted was outstanding for us that day. He seemed to cover every square inch of the pitch.

  • @chrmicjac I assume your talking about Ted Murphy ? He was a great player I think he's passed on now but my one memory of ted was the ball he kicked square into my face (accidently) during the the prematch kick around at Plough Lane one day !! I am interested in the film of the Tooting v Bournemouth game you have how long does it go for for and is it on video tape ??

    many thanks for watching

  • Thanks for putting this on. If some of you were there, you would hopefully know the name Ted Murphy, who was my dad until he sadly passed away in 1996.

Great to see things like this keeping the memory alive, would be nice to hear some comments if any of you remember him.

  • Sad to hear, Ted was one of my favourite players always reliable and was a very skillful what was called then a "half back". At one game I attended at Plough Lane the players were having a kick around before the game Ted mishit a ball and it hit me square in the face ! He came over and apolgised and asked if I was alright-the players were all gentlemen in those days ! Do you follow AFC Wimbledon ?

    all the best

  • Eddie couldn't kick a ball to save his life but his heading was excellent. Did however score a wonder goal that beat Colchester in the FA Cup in 1962.

  • I don't totally agree, I saw him score a goal with an overhead kick once against Ford United I think plus at other times I can remember him spraying passes around and wondering why the crowd were on his back all the time

    thanks for watching the clip

  • Yes I was referring to Ted Murphy.

The film was found about a year ago and is about 7 minutes long.

It's a proper BBC film probably shown on their evening soccer programme.

Although the film has faded a bit it's still pretty good quality. We have transferred it to DVD and a copy was given to the five surviving members of that great Tooting team.

It is far superior to the Pathe News film of the Forest game.

    Thanks for your interest Stewart.

  • @iammurphy34 I remember when a friend told me your dad had passed away.I knew he had been ill and I was working for BT in Glos.I worked with Ted for many years at BT in Kingston. He was such a character. We had a year at Bentalls and we all had such a laugh there.I came round your house in the mid '70's when Ted had damaged his arm or leg at work. You and your brothers were just kids then and I was in my 20's.Saw him play in a BT friendly and he was a differant class.Best wishes,Tony now in Spain

  • @huttonpark .long time since I hit these pages,I may be wrong,I only "cut and pasted" the comment from another web page, I think Ivan still had a blinding game....

  • bigbadscrew is wrong.

Old Carthusians have also won both the F A Cup and F A Amateur Cup

  • That is good to hear! I don't live far from AFC as I think they groundshare with Kingstonian. Sadly everyday life has meant that I haven't yet been to see them, but it is something that my brothers and I have recently been saying we should do. In fact I think this will be the catalyst!

  • When completed, SW19 Sanctuary will become known as Reynolds Gate, to honour the memory of another Wimbledon star from its amateur days, Eddie Reynolds, the striker who scored four goals in the epic FA Amateur Cup Final in 1963 against Sutton. This secures Wimbledon's place in the pantheon of football greats as the only team ever to win both amateur and professional FA Cups.

    Asc I said,this Thursday
