I grew up in Summerseat in the late 70s and 80s, and it's incredible to see this! Thanks so much, whoever put it up.
How different the station looked when it was connected to somewhere, and had a function. The destruction of the infrastructure really wasn't worth the short-term cost savings.
I hope Post Offices aren't the social structure that we bemoan losing in the future. Why do we give beauracrats so much scope?

This is amazing! I take it they filmed a couple of runs - we arrive in summerseat twice and as we leave brooksbottom tunnel a 101 comes out of the next tunnel and disappears!

Great video. I don't suppose you have anything between Eccles and Bury through Clifton, do you?

I couldn't agree more. If the line was still open as far as bacup today then i'm sure it would be making money now with the amount of people travelling into Manchester to work.
Once the railway closed rossendale went into decline and this is still felt today in places like stacksteads and bacup. Rawtenstall, once it got it's motorway connection started to prosper a little again and we've had people moving into the town to live. It just shows what a decent transport infrastructure does.

played in most areas of this line as a kid when they were still running blue class 40 diesel hauled stone trains till late 70s up to rawtenstall also spent quite a while re laying track through brooksbottom tunnel in mid 80s so east lancs could run trains again an often forgotten job in steam preservation but without this exceptionaly hard work they would have gone nowhere

Err, right now i think it's 2008!
Ahh, the train.... Read the description, it's all in there!
;o)
(The line beyond Rawtenstall closed in December of said year. This film is from the last few months I think)

It's weird seeing this series of films. I'm from Rawtenstall and watching the Train going down Bocholt way is very strange as it's now a road.
