In Isan, cock fighting is the poor man's past time. The chicken crow all night long, and at five o'clock the noise becomes unbearable if right in front of your house, so I rise and watch: Gogh gets out of his cozy bed in a tiny shack (7 x 7 meters without sewage, ideal for spreading cholera, and a dump for a toilet), housing his young Isan wife, their two little children, grandfather, grandmother and a sister in law (another sister-in-law had died in the filth two years ago, age 25, following a miscarriage). Then he attends to the other house guests -- his prized two fighting chicken -- given them a good cleaning and rub before he and his wife slip into their company uniform, jump onto their moped and leave for SIMA Technology, a Taiwanese company in a field outside Pak Thong Chai, Nakhon Ratchasima (Isan), Thailand. Gogh did not complete high school, but a 2-year vocational school, qualifying and putting him in charge of SIMA's machinery and equipment as their "maintenance mechanic..." for a $200 salary/month, until the Avian Pandemic Influenza's H5N1 virus (a.k.a. Bird Flue), already back in Vietnam hits Thailand again, closing the factory down, if cholera didn't already do it. SIMA won't even know where it came from, how it could have gotten into their factory, or why. Oh Isan !!
