By putting these two worms in the same dish we inadvertantly combined predator with prey. The brown nemertean worm is Paranemertes peregrina and the polychaete is Nereis virens. The namertean likes to prey on polychaetes by shooting out its long proboscis and temporarily paralyzing the polychaete. Once it stops moving the nemertean will eat it. This polychaete survived though. We rescued it, and although it was semi paralyzed for a couple of hours, it got back to normal. This video comes complete with our amazed narration.
