I posted this three part series because it is such a horrible problem today, and it needs to be addressed. Francis Schaeffer addressed it in the best way I've seen so I wanted to share it with you all.
The idol of 'personal peace and affluence' is being served not only by those professing atheism and humanism, but also many who profess Jesus Christ. It is a damnable idol which is a product of humanism or a person being consumed with themselves. This idol as all idols needs to be abstained from.
I've posted several clips of Schaeffer's before, but they are all coming from the same source: his wonderful DVD documentary called "How Then Shall We Live". He took humanism and unbelief and showed how it has affected societies in different ways starting in the times of the Apostles. Here is how he broke down the ages:
I. The Roman Age
II. The Middle Ages
III. The Renaissance
IV. The Reformation
V. The Revolutionary Age
VI. The Scientific Age
VII. The Age of Non-Reason
VIII. The Age of Fragmentation
IX. The Age of Personal Peace and Affluence
X. Final Choices

It's a great documentary and has helped me grow much.

That was amazing. It seems that I can narrow down all wrong paths that lead out into every branch of error with this amazing knowledge. Humanism truly is evil. It's the beginning of evil, and the goal of evil is humanism. Where everything and everyone is for the happiness of man. But God is the true alpha and omega; the author and the end goal of life. He, God, is the end of all things. Man has taken God and made him a means to an end in their own hearts, for their happiness. Twisted thought.

@edogawaboy1 true Christianity only occurs within someone when they are given by God the understanding of the death, burial and RESURRECTION of Jesus Messiah. If one only understands what ressurection means within their mind and not with a God-given faith and knowing within, they CANNOT be saved. For Jesus overcame death, by the power of the Holy Spirit. And so do the sons of God who are led by that very same spirit. Not church, not even bible, though the scriptures bear witness to God's Spirit.

FS was very influential in the 1960's as I searched for meaning and justification for being Christian. No longer being one, I now see the hollowness of his central argument - ie, we must take a desperate "leap of faith" to latch onto an absolutely code of behavior, because the alternatives, humanism/relativity, otherwise lead to social chaos. Not good enough. The theology must be real for the leap to make sense. If it is man-made, it is a leap into, in Christian terminology, quicksand.

Values are personal. However, there are common sense values that the majority of people agree on: killing is wrong, helping your fellow man, etc.. He claims Christians are a group of people discriminated against by atheist hippies (he is a bit dramatic), and sees the renaissance as a movement that has hurt western civilization. I disagree with his arguments. Humanism has expanded our thoughts on the world, the universe and each other. I believe in abortion.

I love how all that the atheists have against this presentation by Schaeffer is ad hominem and personal attacks. They [and apparently his son] cannot refute what he actually said. There is an internal logic to humanism. Schaeffer is simply pointing out the inevitable result of thinking like a humanist. If we do not return to the Bible, what Schaeffer has said will happen [is happening and] will happen. It is either God or death; there are no alternatives.

I sometimes wonder If NASA scientists discovered a fossilized human fetus on a distant planet, would they classify it as an "amazing discovery of human life," or would they classify it as just a non-living entity to be discarded?

I seen these films in the early 1980s and read his books back then. Now, if you look at the events of today and thinking, he wouldn't be surprised. This is thought provocative.

In a free market of ideas, truth will always win out. The only 2 ways it will not are: 1) People are too lazy to investigate subjects with intellectual honesty, or 2) There is censorship of the truth, as in totalitarian governments.
Anyone who watches this video with intellectual honesty must necessarily see the truth he presents.

When we throw out the values of the Bible, we have nothing left but selfishness. That's not a good basis for society or for law.

I would listen to his son these days ..his son revealed his father at the end disavowed the right wing and did not like what right wing religion was doing with fearmongering.

His son also said that Schaeffer was a depressed sex addict who had temper tantrums with plant throwing and unchallenged fornication at L'Abri. I would take what he says with a whole case of salt; just not a grain.
