I just wanted to do another video in honor of Tuesday. Even if she doesn't make more films, she will still be considered one of the most unique presences and talent on film. And the fact that she had no desire for stardom and its trappings makes me admire her all the more. She lives life on her own terms and doesn't care what other people think. Despite her troubled life, she has survived things that some wouldn't be able to emerge from. Beginning with supporting her family as a child model at the age of three, pushed by a stage mother, drinking by the age of nine, losing her virginity in her early teens which resulted in a nervous breakdown and suicide attempt, her screen persona suggests that behind the childlike innocence of her early roles there is a degree of life experience beyond her years. And she summed up this by stating in 1969, "I didn't have to play Lolita. I was Lolita.", or "As a teenager, I was a wreck. I drank so much I can't remember anything." On success and stardom: "I do not ever want to be a huge star. Do you think I want a success? I refused Bonnie and Clyde (1967) because I was nursing at the time but also because deep down I knew that it was going to be a huge success. The same was true of "Bob and Carol and Fred and Sue" or whatever it was called (Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969). It reeked of success.", and "It seems the brighter you are, the deeper the hole you get into." Her thoughts on Elvis Presley: "He walked into a room and everything stopped. Elvis was just so physically beautiful that even if he didn't have any talent . . . just his face, just his presence. And he was funny, charming, and complicated, but he didn't wear it on his sleeve. You didn't see that he was complicated. You saw great needs." On her relationship with her controlling mother: "She took my childhood away from me. I became the supporter of the family, and I had to take my father's place in many, many ways. I was expected to make up for everything that had gone wrong with in Mama's life. She became obsessed with me, pouring out all her pent-up love--alleged love--on me. It's been heavy on my shoulders ever since. To this day, Mama still thinks I owe everything to her." My favorite Tuesday line ever - when asked by a reporter about what drove her into obscurity in the 70s, she responded, "I think it was a Buick."
So here is Tuesday again, with Andy William's "Butterfly" as the accompanying tune. Enjoy!
Beautiful video thanks so much for producing and posting it, Tuesday we love you.

NICE REMEMBRANCE! MAYBE HER BEAUTY (STUNNING) AFFECTED HER CAREER. I DIDN'T RATE HER HIGHLY UNTIL THE TV FILM "SCORNED AND SWINDLED," A REALLY GOOD PERFORMANCE. IT SHOWED A CHARACTER AS STRONG AND DETERMINED AS I FELT SHE IS. THANX FOR THE APPRECIATION OF AN OVERLOOKED STAR, FER SURE!

Throughout the 60s and 70s the producers kept calling on her. The directors too kept calling on her. But she kept turning them away. In the 60s she would've been bigger than Ann Margaret and on par with Natalie Wood. In the 70s she could've been up there with Faye Dunaway. But she was too independent. Probably rebelled cause of her mother's intrusiveness. At least she didn't destroy herself like Louis Brooks.
