Yes, there was the begining when I was desperate to add fish to the large 27"x 27" x 53" tank! It was not so smart to add the loaches. I had also added some rainbow fish too, but those are in another thank now. We have a wholesale market here and we get fish by the bags of up to 50 pcs per bag. The loaches were wild and did not do so well. I managed to have 3 for over 2 years now.

I am in HK, so it might not be convenient?

I am not sure since I used to get larger frontosas. In fact the main experience of the fish breeding for me was wild fish we received in adult size. In literature, I think they say 2 years, but it can be longer. I find the best trigger is a very large (even over 50%) cool water change.

What helps is the sponge filters running on air pumps. I had 4 such filters running in the beginning and some with the 2 sponges stacked. Now, I am down to only 1 stacked sponge filter.
In HK, there is the common practice for the very large water changes. I might change 30% twice weekly, but lately, it is down to 30% every week or two and it is still just okay. It is winter, so new water is cold.

I do have the experience to keep lots of fish in high denisity. I used to have a wholesale / breeding warehouse with over 1000 aquariums. Of course, we used to run some aquariums on the central system with the swimming pool pumps!
In my tank here, I have the 2 canister filters. These are not the best quality ones and the flow is not optimim since I do not clean then often.

This is exactly why I divided my yellow labs into two tanks. A male tank and a female tank. I wouldn't want those faded yellow ones breeding. They all look happy though you must have a massive filter running.

Sorry for the previous inaccurate reply. In fact, my aquarium is with 2 light tubes where the front tube is ocean blue. Therefore, the fish swimming in front look "faded" since the yellow does not show up well in the blue light! I added the blue light for the possible nicer looking Frontosa and perhaps even help the color rendition of the yellow labs. Overall, maybe the blue tube should be in the back and I might try this when I next replace the tubes.

The faded ones are from a friend who returned them since he wanted to raise discus. He fed different food and had the lights on all the time, which faded the fish. Yes, I would if I had more space. I actually have this large tank and the 2 more 40 gallon tanks. They are all too full!
