Plans are underway for the immediate supply of power to civilians who do not enjoy this facility. Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne revealed this after inspecting activities of the power plant built in Chunnakam to make power supplies in the Jaffna Peninsula more efficient.
The Minister was upbeat about being able to supply electricity to the peninsula for 24 hours a day. The Electricity Board had signed an agreement with the Northern Power Company. Construction of the power plant is underway. It has several heavy oil generators. The work has been completed. The Minister said Jaffna will get electricity sans limitations with the help of other plants.
Minister Douglas Devananda, Deputy Minister Neomal Perera, Head of the Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force and Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa and many senior officials of the Ministry of Power and Energy were present.
