Actually I'd love to write the movie about her... in order for that to happen, you have to have a screenwriter and cast that actually "gets" Mae West... only then would it work.. tThey should teach a college course on that woman.. for those of us that do "get" her, we see that she optimizes everything that was the best of Hollywood and was and what a real "star" should be..

Well they did one and it sucked.. with Ann Julian as Mae West.. whoever cast and wrote that movie was an idiot. There are actually a few people who would be great doing Mae.. of course Faye Dunaway.. who has done an impeccable job of portraying her in "Leroy and Liberace".. Sally Struthers actually does a great Mae West.. Unfortunatly Mae West had more talent in her little finger than most actors have in their in their entire body, so very few could actually pull it off..

Not many people knows that she was a brilliant screenwriter and a playwright. She was calling the shoots in most of her movies way ahead of her time. A brilliant and smart. She was funny and sexy at the same time. One of the most brilliant true movie stars of all times...

@creamac: I was thinking something along the lines of hip-hop, too! Look at the dancing she was doing beginning at 2:15. It looks like something done in a club when the music gets good. She'd have fit right in down here in one of these southern blues clubs dancing like that!

@daccini for some reason bette midler comes to mind for the older mae ...just my opinion tho ;) ..i see a bit of a resemblance and the voice and the energy :) a more toned down bette midler ..both ladies are in my opinion smart,sexy, AND funny !

At this point Mae was an overweight old lady and just LOOK at her! She was a genius at packaging herself and presenting herself and she is the mind behind the fabulous script and witty repartee. As a singer she was from the old vaudeville tradition and didn't just sing a song. She sold it!
