Kim Van Fleet, Audubon Pennsylvania's Central Important Bird Area (IBA) Coordinator, is working with William Penn High School students in York City IBA to provide better native plant cover and foraging habitat for threatened nesting herons and egrets within the city. Native wildflowers, shrubs, and trees were planted in May 2009 at the High School and at Lincoln Park, a city park in York next to the heron rookery. The project is part of a TogetherGreen innovation grant to incorporate Audubon At Home demonstrations at schools, parks, and Audubon Centers in Pennsylvania.
