Hi Jim -

I got the specs for this kayak from Robert Morris's book, "Building Skin-on-Frame Boats". Morris shows how to build it "traditional-style", while I went with non-traditional methods.  But... it's basically the same boat.

Hello, Dark One -

Thanks! The blue thing is called a "spray skirt". It fits tightly around your waist, and a bungee holds it to the cockpit of the kayak. If a wave breaks over the deck of the kayak, it keeps the water out. A skilled kayaker can turn the kayak upside down, and then turn it right-side-up, without getting any water inside. That's the function of the spray skirt.

I have a couple questions. 1: What's the advantage to having a "surf kayak"? Just for fun? 2: How did you get the inner frame cutouts? 3: How long did it take you to build?
