Jan 2007 Chiang Mai north Thailand.
Hired a Honda 200 Phantom for a few days at 500bht a day. Just a clip of a tootle round town. If you go to Thailand and hire a bike note that dozens of farang (foreigners) get wiped out every year. ALWAYS wear a helmet, make sure your travel insurance covers you for riding bikes over 50cc and ride AGRESSIVLY - thais will pull over and let you past or give way (usually!)

  • could maybee have found it cheaper if I'd shopped around but I liked the look of the shop and the bike was low milage and seemed well maintained - I'd rather pay a bit more and not have to worry ;-)

I was very impressed with the little Honda, it went quite well for a 200cc and as you say was very comfortable. I own a Yam XV1000 back in the real world so I liked the chop/crusier styling of the Phantom

  • Chiang Mai, surely u mean you did a lap near the moat?

  • yeah thats right - south end i think :-)

  • nice vid. not sure if i agree with agressive riding, when in doubt - hug the kerb with the scooters, one other thing... watch out for the red taxis "Song Thaews" - they will stop anywhere at anytime looking for customers. Also watch out for old farang driving big cars, they think they are special.

  • ifu go faster than everything else u only have to worry bout wot's in front of you ;-)

  • agreed :) I got this exact bike last time i was there. Next time im going for a fuckin 600cc gsxr or a fireblade or something :D hahaha. i'll show those thai people how the Irish like to crash

  • gud lad! ;-) but b4 u crash the gixxer ride da bugger up to Wat Doi Suthep - the road up da mountain is a dream! good surface and bend after bend after bend after bend...

  • I rode up to the temple not long ago. Hope to go again. Will be renting the 250 ninja this time. Are there any good off road areas? Thinking of doing a bit of off road riding too. Not on the ninja obviously haha.

  • aye dude, some ppl may think "why did he post a vid like this, just him cruising around thai land on a bike" but seriously thanks, I got on the net today looking for exactly this, a Point of view shot from a bike or scooter in thailand. So thanks mate lol

  • ive been there lat december 2010 amazing thaialnd chiang mai

  • @fionnoc dude. I fucking lol'd

  • to each his own Uncle5cary. we know that.... and a wave would definately be more economical

  • Basically, you're paying for plastic and styling. The Yamaha fz150 has fuel injection, liquid cooling, and a counterbalancer all for less money. I'm not a salesman; I own a wave myself.

  • 500baht a day, mmmm you should have it fro 300baht a day. I own a fire edtion phantom btw. Not fast bikes. but very comfortable to drive.
