Here are some B.S. tips. (Blazing Star)
Many folks have experienced some glitches with the FM radios in some of the micro helis like the Exceed RC Blazing Star, including me.
Click this Xheli Link for more info on it.

I had also experienced some glitching and am sure soon there will be 2.4 Ghz radios in all RC models.
Helicopters create lots of electronic noise, and especially ones with metal parts, as this one has.
When I worked at Kraft Radio Control systems back in the day, we didnt even have FM, only AM, so we had lots of other radio noise too.
The rule of thumb for antennas (and I use them today too when I stretch out an antenna on the bottom of my planes is to not double back the antenna over itself, or that part wont count and the radio can become seriously de-tuned and range would be a problem.
Since you cant get too far away with a Micro helicopter before you cant see it, this is how I solved my glitching problem.
Begin by coiling the wire over a Nyrod or Carbon Fibre rod to about 4 inches, and string the rest out the front. This becomes a base loaded antenna which will see signals from all angels and work well. Keep it away from the metal and do not run it next to power wires or servos.
Also, the Blades on this broke, because they were too loose in the beginning.

Due to counter rotating design, you should tighten them up tighter, so gusts of wind or throttle jockeying wont cause a blade strike in the air like it did with me.

So I had shorter blades and found that they work fine if you replace all with the same size as this bird seems not too critical and you can see how well it flies on the CH46 blades here.
Have fun, thanks for watching and happy flying.

  • Great video and yes the best option is to stretch the antenna out.

The base coil is the way most center tuned and some base tuned CB antennas have been made for years. The other type has an impedance matching transformer in the base. You don't get a loss of power but there is a loss of current, shortening you range.

I have never checked a carbon rod for conductivity but carbon in the raw state definitely is. Could having it as a center rod short out the coil that is wrapped around it?

  • Maybe so, but it totally fixed the glitching in this heli and others, so it is hard to argue with success. These helis dont fly far enough away to run out of range, as they are small and hard to control if you cant see them.

Carbon filled fibre is non conductive.

  • excellent, flight 10/10

  • Thanks.

  • I'm glad that you are acknowledging the glitching Dave. When I talked about it on my video people gave me nasty comments and blame pilot error even though I been flying heli's for a few years.

Hopefully they won't go through what I went through.

  • True, very true.
