  • this is quite a good performance, im sure you moved the audience with this ravishing piece. its too fast though, esp. in the beginning and recap @ 3:28 ,i think it should have an improvisatory aura to it. i really liked the trill passage @ 3:10. last chord too loud!!!

  • I agree with you it was too fast, but honestly all versions i heard before were too slow in my opinion. I prefer that tempo a tad too fast than too slow, where you loose sight of phrase directions. About the last chord, i really want people to hear the A flat / A natural dissonance, so i like it like that, with a little more dynamism than expected after the chord before that one.

  • Nice, thanks for posting! I didn't find the middle section excessively fast (Tharaud moves it along, too), but perhaps a tad metronomic. If I could manage to play this piece, I too would make the final dissonance -- flatted added-sixth? -- easily heard. Isn't it so wickedly characteristic of Poulenc to stick an unrolled tenth in last chord? Frankly, I'd cheat and put the F-natural in the left hand. Who would know?

  • my ideal version would be pascal roge's opening/closing & tharaud's middle section. i can see why you think other versions are too slow, esp of roge's in the middle section. from poulenc's marking of a pppp it would seem the last chord should be barely audible-more for nuance/texture than dissonance...i really think it should be an afterthought to the penultimate chord.
