I have been asked by litokawaiikoa for a track with only the alto voice from le cantique de Jean Racine. All I had to do was to mute the other voices in my previous version (and a bit of polish), so there it is.

What you CAN (IMHO) get from this track :
* the notes. They are all correct (I checked this afternoon with the score), and about in tune (at least enough so there is no doubt about which note I intended to sing. if it sounds weird, it's normal, that's an alto part ;))
* the french pronunciation is authentic as I'm French myself. Some of the consonants are a bit muffled but the vowel sound are there. However my "r" are sometimes too rolled. A good example of how rs should be (imho) can be found in "immortelle" at 3:32.

What you CAN'T (IMHO) find in this track :
* a beautiful voice :) Even if i edited to keep the best parts, I recorded the two times only so it doesn't sound so good. Oh and I'm a guy, that doesn't help as well :)
* the dynamics of the piece. The fortes and pianos are not respected most of the time so you won't find that here, sorry.
* good breathing : It's not my forte, so even if I tried to watch myself, you shouldn't use this track as far as breathing is concerned (there are a few blatant bad examples in this track). Listen to your conductor indications ;)

Please comment if you have any question and let me know if that was useful in any way ! Avoid comments stating what I already covered above (in particular I know it prob sounds bad, but the goal is to provide the notes without the other voices around).

(I'm not so sure of the sound quality, I feel like it's saturated but it does that only in my headphones so not sure :/)

  • Very useful indeed, many thanks! But I can't find a way to "play" the video any moment I want: it automatically starts back at the beginning; not very practical to rehearse... Is there a trick?

  • @PatataLola No trick! Unfortunately i don't know why the video won't let you do that, and it does that same to me so i guess it's the same for everyone... Sorry!

  • i have to say ur a lifesaver! we had to have this memorized quickly and i listened to this version over and over to memorize it and believe me it worked! thanks SO much!

    Cheers

  • I'm glad I could help ! Sorry you had to listen to it over and over though :)

  • Thank you! I'm using this every day to prepare for recitals next month!

  • I would thank you a thousand times. :) Seriously.

However, I, apparantly have a different version of the song which is quite weird, but it's like that... But this one is still handy for the parts that are the same and the big lines and curves of the alto melody.

Yeah, as said before: you're a life saver!!!!

  • merci beaucoup , super time " saviour " ;)

  • This is a great resource. Thank you!!

  • Thanks Karen, for sending this!

  • I appreciate your effort and thank you on behalf of amatuer singers. It make it easier to learn the song. How about bass? cosmos.

  • I hadn't listened to your learning tracks until today and now I have an even greater respect for what you have accomplished. Keep it up!
