A good gun store should have various bullets in various weights and types and manufactures that have been shot into substances that will give you a visual picture of how effective the bullet type is. Thickness of clothing, vests etc all come in the equation but the simple answer is you need to knock your opponent down W/O killing someone else. Therefore the first few rounds in your magazine to knock someone down and then something for more penetration if needed-or the sound of a pump shotgun :-)

@j318443 the best questions can be explained with the simplest answers. the amount of lead in the bullet makes up the weight. take out lead to make a hollow point, and you get a lighter bullet. to make a hollow point that is 230gr (which we all know exist) the bullet itself is gonna be longer, providing less room for powder. now i do not know the exact science behind hornady's product, and i myself would like a heavier bullet, but it will probably take a ton more R&D to do it, or they just can't

I keep the 12ga loads at my home for my Stoeger coach gun for home defense. I tested these when i first bought them on a old plastic bucket...damn one shot knocked a big hole in that bucket on both sides.Very tight shot pattern!!! I hope I never have to use these on a human being because it will be a ugly messy scene. I guarantee these will drop the intruder stone cold dead!

The stippling on the Glock at 0:39 is awful, just for the record.

I would like to see an unbiased comparison of the typical hollow point and the .45 185 gr FTX. I like the .45 FTX but seeing it fired with a typical .45 hollow point would be nice. How about guys, give us a video comparison, and thanks for good reliable ammunition.

If anyone (wich a lot of people do) are having problems finding hollow points through a pt 24/7 .45 this is the answer. Fired 500 rounds of this stuff and all i have is one word to say. FLAWLESS! Awesome product. But heres a Question for Hornady. Why not make a 230gr slug and make everyone happy, including a die hard 230gr kinda man like me???

Today I tested the Critical Defense in .380, .38 and 9MM. I used a Ruger LCP, S&W 642 and M&P9 Full Size. Extremely impressed with this ammo. Had no issues and it fed perfectly in all my firearms. Rounds expand 100% of the time in short barrel and long barrel handguns. This is now in all of my defensive handguns. Excellent rounds and keep up the good work!

Why is there money on the table at 3:26?

@stevo642007 I've never even seen Mag Safe rounds, but checking them out, they look exactly like Glasers. And as you said, yes, Black Talons and Hydra Shoks are best for when you expect an attacker to be wearing thinner clothing, such as in the summer. I have more magazines filled with FTX bullet loaded ammunition such as Hornady's LeveRevolution and Critical Defense, but I have a few Black Talon and Hydra Shok mags lying around. I actually have each one marked so I know which one to grab.
@romeoking19 To answer your question, yes. I work part time at a shooting range, and when faced in a hostile situation, the last thing you want is overkill. Imagine shooting your attacker, but the bullet goes thru him and hits something or someone behind him. If it was an innocent person, could you live with yourself? Better to have a bullet known for penetration than for power. And if the attacker doesn't go down with one shot, SHOOT HIM AGAIN !!! That's what is called getting the job done!

@HerbWalker. This ammo works great, and yes it's a bit expensive. Here's the thing: Some crook breaks into your home at 2:30 in the morning, and the only thing between him and your family is you and your weapon. Cost of ammo is the least of your worries. You'd want a top quality bullet that will perform 100% of the time. I trust my life and the lives of my family to Hornady, both in my Springfield XD(M) pistol and my 12 gauge Reminton 870.
