I'M SO THANKFUL // Thanksgiving Special (2/2)
Part One: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIxTBLc6-fY

"Mom, Dad, we're here!" Joe opened the familiar door and stepped into the foyer large foyer, knowing his voice had gotten lost amidst the chatter from his family members. His brother Nick was the first to spot them, taking their bags upstairs so Joe could reunite with his cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. He'd missed them more than he'd realized.

At 7pm, they gathered around the large dining room table, making room for extra chairs and the curious eyes of the young children. Somehow Joe ended up separated from Taylor which made him a little frantic not having her beside him until he saw her sitting across from him and let out a sigh of relief. He loved her so much that sometimes he had small moments of worry when he wasn't sure where she was. Taylor kept him together. And with Jack and Haley, he wasn't sure what he'd do without her.

"Joe, will you start us off?" He heard his father ask, knowing the question was referring to what he was thankful for. Every year at Thanksgiving they went around the table, sharing on what they were most grateful for since their last family turkey dinner.

"Sure," Joe nodded, clearing his throat. "Uh," he paused a moment, realizing he hadn't even prepared properly. "I'm thankful for every one of you of course," he began, receiving laughter from all around him. "It's always easiest being the one that goes first because you can say all the cliché things like 'I'm thankful for my family, for my jobs, for this dinner.'" He waited until the laughter died down again to continue. "I am thankful for all of that. But what I'm really thankful for, not only this year but every day, is Taylor."

Joe met his wife's eyes from across the table, holding her gaze steadily as he kept talking. It was quiet around him, but for once Joe found that he knew what to say. His love for Taylor encompassed his lack of ability to articulate his feelings, which was another thing he was thankful for.

"Taylor, you... you change me, every day. For the better, that's for sure. I know I don't say it enough but I love you. You've saved me in ways I didn't even know I needed to be saved, so thank you. Not only are you my wife and the love of my life, but you're the mother to my Jack and Haley and you're my best friend. I'm so thankful for everything you do for our family and for myself and for everyone else in your life. You inspire me to be a better person, and I'm just... thankful." As Joe wrapped up what had turned into a mini-speech, his family let out a collective "aww" and soft applause.

"Are you kidding me, Joe? You tell me you love me every day," Taylor said, her cheeks slightly flushed a shade of light pink. "And you do realize that sounded like something you could've said at our wedding?" She teased with a sweet smile on her face. "I love you too, baby."

Their family applauded again, beginning to start up their chatter before Joe's father quieted them down and had Nick continue the thanksgiving rounds. But although Joe was aware of each individual family member sharing their thanks, he could only pay attention subconsciously. As they went around the table, Joe kept his eyes on Taylor, a smile on his face knowing he'd gotten his message through.

Family was important, and Taylor was one of the most important people in Joe's life. He loved her, he was in love with her, and that Thanksgiving he was so thankful he'd really let her know in front of their family and friends. He knew he'd never lose her, that they'd grow old together and love each other even if one of them left the world first. Taylor was his whole world and she knew that too, but Joe also knew that something simple like saying "I love you" always went a long way.

I wrote this really quick before Thanksgiving because I felt really inspired, but I didn't have time to post it until now. It's really simple and not very dramatic but I hope it put you guys into a holiday-mood and that you enjoyed it just the same. Much love!
