Her phrasing seems to be strongly influenced by Billie Holiday.

Una voz sensual y apasionada la de esta Patti Page. Lo hace muy bien con este inolvidable " You belong to me". Qué maravilla de mujer !!!!

@documusic1930
Allí se hecho pocos cantatrices con la voz cantando que estaba recientemente lleno de la pasión como ella.

My vote for best version goes to The Duprees. Patti Page version is great, too. I like Patti's version better than Jo Stafford's.

@TNewDirection4us
The singing of Jo Stafford is also wonderful.
However, the element that is very friendly, and sounds in the mind is included in it by patti more.

KaiserPCS, she seems to be saying:
See the pyramids around the Nile
Watch the sun rise
ON A tropic isle.. I'm not a native speaker, but it sounds like that to my ears...

@MishaG9 She clear sings "along the Nile" not "around the Nile".

Well, the text you published 6 months ago says: "around the Nile" and I just copied it without realizing this. But I was mainly referring to this:

Watch the sun rise
From the tropic isle
She doesn't seem to be saying "FROM", but "ON", no?

First recorded by Sue Thompson. Rediscovered by Joni James and recorded in her first session, for Sharp Records in Chicago. One of the songwriters borrowed the acetate and as far as know brought it to Mitch Miller, who gave it to Jo Stafford. Then covered quickly by Patti Page and then Dean Martin. Rerecorded by Joni at Abbey Road in London in 1960 with "I Need You Now," another song she lost (to Eddie Fisher) along with two remakes of hits, one of which she subsequently recorded AGAIN.
