Have virulent spraling allover watermellon plants, plenty of fowers end of july not one mellon, Damn!

You could try pollenating them yourself, find a female flower, pick it and tip in upside down over a male flower (a flower with a small fruit behnind it), then tap the flower and hopefully you will do the job of the bees! I know this works for pumpkins, but not sure about watermelons....you've seen my lack of success with watermelons!

Hi, I bought giant watermelon seeds from ebay.

Do you think it will grow to a good big size watermelon as described??

If they are true to type seeds I can't see why not. I suspect that the problem I had is that the plant germinated from a hybrid watermelon varitey that I had bought from the shops and these may not produce tru to type fruit again. However if you have purchased heirloom seeds there should be no problem. I am planning myrevenge this year with a huge watermelon crop from good seed stock, keep posted and good luck with your own melons!

when it's ripe... forget tapping....I go by the stem when it starts to brown,another way to tell is when the melon loses it's shine or when you start seeing tinges of yellow(once it's to size) on the melon bottom

@kiyafarm you wrong bro, you can't pick the female flower, pick the male flower and remove the petal and put it on female flower. Female flower have a large stalk then male flower.

also= I also learned it can't help to gently turn them occasionally whether or not they are elvated, as this allow them to soak in the suns goodness. So how are things going at this time with your melons, and is 4 months a definite ideal timeframe to watch for?

1 thing my grandma taught me in her VERY fruitful/sucessful garden, was as the melon gets bigger, elevate it a bit, on something like an upside down coffee can, this keep the melon from getting a soft spot from being on the damp ground, (when it actually rains), plus this makes it easier to find, as the vines & leaves tend to "hide" their fruit.

I am in Melbourne and its March 20th. Watermelon fruit are just coming out. The biggest is about four inches long. How long will it take for the fruit to mature? and is it to late in the season for them?
