  • So funny because I just returned from buying 3 bear cannisters and assault bear spray. So I'm really relieved to receive this. Have you heard of any cars getting broken into up there lately? And what do you do for your bathroom. Do you use something like a portable PETT. Or do you dig a privy. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you soooo much!

  • @LoveRise No break-ins that I have heard of. Dig!

  • I'm going to be camping at utica and union and on the video it shows bear activity. And I really need to know how active the bears are in that area to know whether or not to bring a bear cannister. Also will the bears break into your car like they do in yosemite. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Did you bear proof your food and did you bring a cooler?

  • @LoveRise Just got back from three days at Utica - no bears this time. It is nothing like Yosemite - we have been out there many times and only had one bear encounter. We did not use bear canisters - took tote bags and soft coolers. Just don't sleep with your food! Have fun!!

  • Well now I'm hooked!

Any suggestion for what kind of kayak to purchase for extended camping/kayaking? This is how I want to spend my next vacation.

  • @Nauticalman As you can see, they key for us was gear capacity. The sit-on-top kayak is versatile, allowing for lots of strap-on gear transport. Our Hobies have worked out great and the doubles are very stable. You wont win a speed competition with them but they are great for the family kayak camping trips we take.

  • Really enjoyed this video! Thanks for sharing!

  • I put a dent in my car for the first time after kayaking all over the state of California for 30 years at Utica on a low protuding rocks by the launch access..

  • @dmwdljj Thanks for the tip. Yes, I plan to carry long term gear with me in my travels, but I assumed the enclosed kayaks were to be less prone to water penetration. Thanks for the tip.
