Hatchling lace monitors are nervous little creatures, so one of the best ways to check up on them without stressing them out is to set up a time-lapse camera in front of their enclosure right before I leave for work and then checking the images when I get home. They're busy little units when I'm not around!

Ever seen time lapse footage of maggots eating a carcass? I almost named this video 'Monitor Maggots'.

For the curious (as I know someone will post this question), the food is frozen mice and small chickens which have been chopped up and then thawed.

  • COOL VID! Love your Lace Monitors... They are just plain beatifull. And a great track under it, some o'school house for ya there. :D

I just started out keeping monitor lizards, got two 7 wk old yellow ackies. A lace monitor is probably a dream that will never come true for me, not in Holland...

  • @MilanRotterdam thanks for your comments! The great thing about ackies is that they have all of the attitude and behaviour of larger monitor species in a smaller package that's more easily housed, so don't fret too much about not being able to get lace monitors.

  • Do you find that these guys become less secretive as they age at one point do you start handling them?

  • @aw8one it takes them a fair while before they become less secretive, but I don't handle them at all until they are well past that and actually start approaching me.

  • where canyou get a lace monitor????

  • @YFZ450Kid09 wait, are you the kid that keeps a green tree monitor in a mesh enclosure, indoors? I'm guessing you're not quite ready for a lace monitor.
