NYPD Officer Killed By Another NYPD Police Officer

New York City Police officer shot during an incident in East Harlem late Thursday night has died.

The shooting took place near the corner of 124h Street and Second Avenue, at approximately 10:30 p.m. The officer was was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the officer, who had just gotten off work, was shot and killed by a fellow officer while chasing a suspect who had broken into his car.

The shooting happened within blocks of a Harlem police station.

said the 25-year-old officer, Omar Edwards, died about an hour later at Harlem hospital.

Edwards noticed a man rummaging through his car and starting chasing him with his gun drawn.

Plainclothes officers spotted the chase and intervened. one of those officers got out of his vehicle and fired six times, hitting Edwards in the arm and chest. Edwards did not fire his weapon. Part 02 Of 02

Guys, lets keep an open mind and think outside the box for one second! The cops in uniform saw the other cop with no uniform and a gun chasing someone else in harlem no less, probably asked him to drop his weapon, he probably didn't hear them because he was trying to chase the person who just broke into his car. Its called tunnel vision. You have ur sights on one thing, and the last thing he thought was that he'd be shot as a cop for chasing a criminal. There r 3 sides to this story.

It just goes to show that cops are SO ready to use thier weapons... shooting someone should be a last resort..Much less so in the BACK. Then they tried to cover it up by saying they shot him in the chest.It wasnt black or white it was that Omar had made reports on BAD COPs and it was retaliation.They knew what time Omar got off work..it all was a set up

Actually the cops that saw him chasing the man who broke into his car were in plain cloths. I don't think they told him to drop the weapon, but its possible that they saw the gun and though the person he was chasing was in danger. Most people would probably think that.
