Feng Xiaogang's movie "Assembly" takes a huge step step away from the propaganda of older Chinese war films.
Thousands of soldiers died in the battle that took place during the Chinese Civil War in 1948. Captain Guzidi is ordered to fight the KMT Army until he hears the trumpet call of retreat. But Guzidi never hears the call, and his troops must continue to fight...
