Taken from the 1966 Italian documentary film 'Africa Addio', it follows the exploits of some mercenaries in the Congo during the brutal end of the colonial era and birth of 'so-called' Zaire. Although not one of my usual posts, I had the idea for a long while (also combining the Les Baxter track) and I feel its dark subject more than worthwhile.

I had to extensively edit out some of the truly horrific scenes from the original cut.

  • What is the name of the music?

  • @Thinksamuel 'Flight in the Andes' - Les Baxter

  • where did you get all this music from m IM SO DAMN JEALOUS

  • years of collecting... (not mention spending too much £s) ... glad you like it.

  • It is sad and brutal! Like the music though.

  • The operation was the conquest of Boende from the Simba rebels, these 40 mercenaries suceeded where 93,000 UN troops failed. Albeit at a terrible price.

I remember reading Mike's memoir. He was continually on the watch for any of his troops dressing sloppily or taking grisly trophies or going medieval on captured Simbas. Anyone who showed signs of wigging out would be paid off and sent home immediately. Their Armee Nationale Congolaise allies had no such restraints, however. The way he described it was that the savagery was all-pervasive and infectious. The fear was that you'd slip your tether and become worse than "them".

  • "Mad Mike". Bad azz merc!

  • Looks like a great movie.

  • Mercs Forever!!

    Gung Ho!
