  • i do admit that his interpretation is fast, but i feel like he didn't even grasp the sense of this romantic piece and to really relish the moment.

  • @bdaniel2008 exactly what i mean :)

  • Thank you again! Love this 3rd movement!

  • do you want me to post the 2nd movement too?

  • This has to be amongst the greatest of all classical recordings. But credit must also go to the conductor, Sir Malcolm Sargent, who's control and timing are, like that of Heifetz, almost without equal. What a collaboration... !

  • The absolute gold standard for this concerto.

  • Violin Concert nº1 in G Minor

1º mov. - Vorspiel: Allegro moderato

    2º mov. - Adagio

3º mov. - Finale: Allegro energico

    Jascha Heifetz - violin

Sir Malcolm Sargent (conductor), New Symphony Orchestra of London

    recorded: May, 14 and 16, 1962

  • A truly great work in calssical music, a phenomenal. When I hear this from radio, I always think that must be Beethoven, this much great!!! For some reason, I can see Beethhoven's emotions.

  • hmm.. A very wonderful interpretation but a bit too fast for my tastes.... but Sarah Chang and Menuhin do this piece more justice...

  • Invincible!!!!!

  • Rhythm was especially important to Heifetz. One can hear that in his performances. It is ok to prefer others in this work. However, if one looks at the big picture, his performance could be considered definitive. Bruch concerto is not the greatest concerto ever written, but wonderful. H plays it wonderfully. If one is now looking for great depth in this music, perhaps in Menuhin you can find it. That recording is inspirational, and gets under your skin in a way that "wonderful" will not.

Heifetz just 'plays' this music but is unable to express the feelings and emotions of this movement as some other top Violiniists do in a far better way than him.
