Dust can clog the fans and heatsinks of notebooks. When it does the fan will spin more often and louder than it used to. This video shows how to access the fan in a Dell notebook and then clean it.
After we cleaned this notebook, the fan only started spinning when the notebook was working hard, as opposed to all the time.

  • @lucan316 He mentions that in the video--yes, it will most likely void your warranty. Usually you don't have to do it on a laptop new enough to have one, though.
