Not always i remember messi dropping deeper into midfield to help pull the strings in games he didnt stay deep in the oppositions half the only time messi was marked for the whole game was when in their 3rd game in the group stage the opposition had a player who shadowed messi for the full 90 minutes, in the other games messi did well aside from scoring which we covered was a result of him being heavily marked whenever he was in 30 yards of the oppositions goal.

Messi is a stumbler tumbler... nearly every goal he has scored he is either stumbling, or tumbling :D

I'm not talking about the team, or any other player, I was JUST talking about MESSI... and Messi alone as a player. I know he's not a 1 man team, and the team helps him to score, but I am saying, that he kept getting marked, and when he got the ball he got taken out, as a response to you saying Ronaldo gets marked, I am just saying Messi was/is in the same position.

difference is that right now argentina has a wealth of attacking talent that has matured since the last world cup and they will make it impossible for teams to get by simply by marking messi, do that now and play will just shift to di maria, aguero or pastore to make something happen and they have high rate goal scorers in higuain and aguero to score if messi cant, all the greats who won the world cup are accompanied by world class talents who allowed them the freedom to perform in those games.

Yeah, guess the same happened to Messi at the world cup, he kept getting marked and taken out by defenders... that's what happens in international matches, Big threats are exaggerated and marked to death... and then other players score and become big names at world cups/ internationals...
