COLDEST

Now she has her precious freedom
-I wonder what she'll do with it.
Who will share her one night stands?
I know I wasn't the first
but I was hoping to be last;
I ended up another entry
written in her past.

Now she has her precious freedom
-I think I know what she'll do with it.
All 4 corners call out her Maiden Name
She can't resist the temptation
of the highway;
so many choices keep her alive
and drive me insane.

Now she has her precious freedom
-doing whatever she wants to whoever she pleases;
not a single whispered promise
impossible to keep;
her engine always idling
in case she has to leave;
I can hear it in the distance

every night

-it never lets me sleep.

  • The engine in the distance, i like that your work is not naval gazing. A lot of poetry is really just banal confessional.

  • @sundersart Well thank you. Sylvia Plath gave an interview where she said she hated naval gazing poems. I tend to try to build stories in poems that are based on feelings and then make the poem as interesting as I can. Thanks again for the comment! :P

  • How do you recite your poetry so easily without any kind reference? As in, reading off a screen or paper.

    Really well done. You have talent. By the way I saw the public recitation, and I must say you should do more public readings of ur poetry.

  • Cammy!: It's really not that hard to memorize. Heck, there are actors the memorize huge chunks of Shakespeare... this is child play compared to that. Reading it into a small tape recorder and then listening to it a lot helps... it also helps in writing - taping the rough drafts and listening... you kind of hear what flows and what doesn't... thanks for the kind words :)

  • Damn I love ya poems man you really are teaching me to up my game in poetry writting

  • Wilmrbadguy: Thanks for this comment and the other ones you made. You're too kind. I'm glad you did comment because it made me check out your YouTube fame & Obama videos - both of which were really well done. Peace.

  • Sartre said, "if literature isn't everything, it's not worth a single hour of someone's trouble." Your stuff is always "everything."

    Lo

  • Another winner from the pen of Mr. Curtis. Alas. You better find yourself a loyal woman! These fly-by-night ladies will be the death of you yet... 8-)

  • Love your delivery! Well done, David.

  • I shouldn't go back through your works. In a way you make me think of Barack Obama. Excuse me if I don't call him president. Obama is a man with the ability to sell angels flight insurance, a man that fate said, "I'm going to give you the love of the world just to see what you will do with it."

  • Damn, he sounds like Bukowski.

  • Brilliant! I Loved it! Come Take a look at my dark poetry, I have a feeling you'll like it (:

  • I think I love you :p

  • Brilliant love the line her engine always idling.

  • Wow, DRC this is one of my favorite pieces of yours, and that is saying a lot considering you've made so many amazing poems. I am so glad I saw this one on Roy's great piece, absolutely wonderful. And in a tribute to you: 5*/fave, haha.
