Glasgow Save Our Schools "SOS" campaigners and local residents prepare to set off on a march around Wyndford, Maryhill, Glasgow G20 to protest the proposed closure by Glasgow City Council of 25 schools across Glasgow including St Gregory's and Wyndford primaries as well as St Agnes' in Cadder and Ruchill primary which also houses an autism unit. Three days earlier parents began an occupation of the two primaries in the Wyndford in an effort to save the schools. They have bravely given up their Easter holidays to sleep on a school floor and the Wyndford march was as much to show support to the occupying parents as to campaign against the closures. Parents, children and other marchers including local politicians and the local minister took part, showing that support for saving the schools is widespread. Nurseries including Wyndford nursery are also earmarked for closure. Maryhill is an economically deprived area and the last thing the area needs is more cuts. The Wyndford demonstration was a colourful and lively sight and certainly made its presence felt in Maryhill with agreement from passing motorists tooting their support. At the beginning of part 1 of this video, SOS campaign organiser Richie Venton gives practical road safety advice as the marchers assemble. At the end of part 3, there are rousing speeches from various speakers in support of saving the schools. "Wyndford, St Gregory's, we'll never be divided" read some banners and the demonstrators were unanimous on that.

Due to YouTube changes which place uploaders' comments at the top, it looks as if my previous comment "Couldn't agree more" was in answer to the most recent comment under "All Comments" which for the last year has been the one by buffs1899, but in fact my comment was intended as a reply to stephenb1987's comment "get labour out of glasgow city council." (Just for clarification.)

Couldnt agree more! This shower in the council have showed nothing but utter contempt for the people of Glasgow. They had a sham consultation which showed overwhelming public support to keep the 25 schools open and yet they go ahead and vote in the Chambers to close them anyway. So much for public consultation! They seem to forget that we, the people, are their employers. They had better be worried at the next election!
