@NateDoggOGXV Maybe it made a mistake and thought the human was prey.....As you said, it didn't maul him, it let him go after and just ran off. Animals aren't prone to mistakes you know! Also, when you go somewhere a cougar may be, they also have survival instincts to protect their territories. I can't give you a definitive answer but all I would suggest is that if a human goes in cougar territory, you should live with the consequences of your decision!

Actually, in Squamish a couple weeks (maybe a month ago?) a cougar ambushed a mountain biker. Didn't maul them or anything, just pounced on them, knocked them off their bike, and ran off. Biker escaped with a few bruises.
What was the point of that? Moving target?

@Filmguy25 I love animals but if you have a dog then don't take it where a cougar may be. People have backyards, they can walk their dog on the sidewalk. They can even go to a local public park. Why take your dog on a route that may encounter big cats? and then the big cat pays the price for being pushed out of its own territory? If this cougar was shot, then our race just shows how primitive and stupid we actually are. Look how beautiful it is! LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!

@use2slam2 Any dog would get obliterated by a cougar with conviction.....Do you realise how fast and powerful these animals are? There are some, rare instances where they fend off bears.....you think ANY dog would be able to handle a 150lb cat with larger canines, razor sharp claws, and the speed of the guy in the matrix? seriously?

@Purifiedinfire humans aren't cougar prey.....if it's hungry (I mean really hungry) and struggling for food, then it will maybe ambush a human. But, it won't just attack a human for the sake of attacking a human. The only other reason may be that it wants to protect itself. Humans are the only ignorant species that kill for stupid reasons like money, carpets, and a hole wrath of other inexcusable motives...

@informaleducation .........wow that's a crazy story, i hoped you did not get charged for an improper sentence or swearing when the conversation officers showed up, pretty steep fines I hear.!

I'm very sorry the dog was killed. :-(
Wow, this cat's behaviour is bizarre. Totally casual about two guys standing there talking a few feet away. Such a fearless cougar could never be left to hang around a popular hiking trail.
Was the videographer in danger? Well, I don't think any cougar in its right mind would make a face-on attack on 2 men in broad daylight. They hunt from ambush. However, this cougar's acting so weird and nonchalant, you have to wonder if it was in its right mind! :-(

@linuxrules04 Oh come on now.. considering the situation they were in.. I'm pretty sure anybody would be shaking like a leaf! I would be! I saw one once when I lived in Colorado... it walked in front of our car.. we saw it and stopped.. and it just continued to meander across the street with a look of "what are you looking at??" Lol! With it's tail.. it was easily as long as the car was wide! I was seriously glad to have the protection of a car between me and that cat! Was an amazing experience!

You can expect 100 stitches per second that a cougar is attacking you. That is a cool video, but a very dangerous situation.
