This was presented to me as a fact by both an employed groom and an employed trainer at the barn there. That's as close to the facts as I can get as I was only there to adopt a horse slated for slaughter. Thanks.

I agree that all racetracks should do this... giving back to the horses that keep the facility running in the first place. These animals do not deserve to be slaughtered just because their race career is finished. In my community, it is difficult for the average person to find out about the horses that are finished their career. My understanding, as informed by a groom, is that Northlands Race Track in Edmonton has a meat truck which comes once per week to pick up the unwanted horses!!

After all the race horses do for their owners, in regards to just winning money, They DO not ever deserve to be slaughtered..and if you cant sell them adopt them out...so from all the ex -race horses comes 200 thousand , slaughter horses a year? god I hope not..

WOW, this is awesome!! Why can't more racetracks do this?! Exracehorses are awesome and they don't deserve to go off to the meat auction. :( (Yes, that still happens here - only they get to go to Mexico and Canada instead. Whoopee)

I HATE HATE HATE the fact that Horse slaughter is actually allowed to be considered. The racing community need to stop the use of Drugs in American racing, and Horse Slaughter.
