This is a tribute video to Fr. Anthony Perez, one of our professors at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore who died suddenly of a heart attack while playing racquetball. He was a good man and a good priest and he will be greatly missed.
After having been away from Guam for a while, our paths crossed again at Mass he was the presider and I was the pianist. When I extended my hand to greet him, he opened his arms instead. That greeting felt warm and genuine. He concelebrated at both my parent's funerals without being asked, an example of his giving. As a student of his in high school, he was always willing to answer any of my questions. There are many things I can write about my interactions with him. Thank you Fr. Tony +++
Si Yu'os Ma'ase(Thank you) for posting this wonderful tribute. I attended the vigil Mass on Guam and as I looked around I saw a few of the seminarians that are now priests concelebrating. I felt a common bond for I was once a seminarian with them in the minor seminary when Father Tony was our rector. I met Father Tony for the very first time while I was in middle school when he gave a talk about the minor seminary. His talk moved me to give it a try when I went to Father Duenas Mem. School.
Thanks Ballard, every once in awhile I find myself just wanting to watch this. I still expect to see him in the morning when I go into the chapel. The best mentor and example of a priestly heart I've ever known, and that is saying something, because I know a lot of priests.
