If you want to know a few facts: Oil sands create around 5% of the green houses gases in Canada. And responsible for around 1tenth of 1 percent of the total global green house emmis. Southern Ontario is responsible for more than the oil sands. So maybe Southern Ontario should be shut down instead of the oil sands.
But I know lets shut down everything, throw hundreds of thousands of people out of work. Then what?? then we can start buying oil from the saudis but our people who cares.

bottom line is that we need 90 millions barrels a day for cars and derivative products - polymers, plastics, paints, etc are all petroleum-based. It's a fallacy to dream that one day, we will live oil-free...

Unless you ride a bike and avoid the more than 5000 products all made from petroleum bases, you are part of the problem.

I'm from North Bay, Northern Onatrio i know a few people that have gone out west to work in construction, framing houses work in kitchens at fancy hotels everything and especially work for the oil companys and not one thinks about the impact on the landscape they mainly talk about when they get back there buying a new mustang or a new truck.

jeenrid7, the narrator is simply describing a huge difference between extraction methods (bitumen vs. crude). Why would you have a problem with that info? Are you wanting to pretend it's a benign way to get oil?

You don't think, given the source of this video, there is an agenda to be accomplished here? You don't think there are environmental challenges to be met with extracting crude? It looks like you are first and foremost concerned about the general environmental well-being. I think in that case your ire should be directed at the demand side of the equation here, because when it comes to energy policy free market reigns and demand has made it so that mining bitumen is a lucrative solution.

This is the classic pillage-and-run mentality that's left so many ghost towns and scarred landscapes. But bitumen mining is on a much bigger scale than previous booms.

The first step in solving the energy problem is to recognize the insanity of endless population growth (75,000,000 per year globally now). Demand must be stabilized, not coddled as if it's natural to grow forever.

Those who really want to live "green" should limit their family size to a replacement level of 2 or fewer kids.

2%,what about canadas carbon exports?.
Why since the industrial revolution haveC02 & temperature changes spiked not just gone up?
Alot of Land & ocean life absorb co2& emit oxygen, scientists take volcanoes effect into account, helping volcanoes create faster climate change isnt smart. Lets use democracy, education, equality & appropriate safer high tech across the world, its healthier & controls population levels. Americas a oil oligarchy, not a real democracy, despite their banks, check the swiss

The Earth has been around for billions of years. Mankind is only but a sliver in time. The changing weather patterns & climate can also be attributed to the changes in Earth's revolution & wobble effects over time.

I am sure the Earth will be around for billions more, with other species to enjoy it. Have faith in mankind & technology to prolongue our stay.

StraightTalkProwess, you are a classic growth-and-pillage apologist. Try to get a conscience about the details.

If you're really so keen on the human race lasting awhile, you should understand that nature keeps us alive, not petro-dollars. Activities that destroy nature for quick money are inherently cannibalistic and can't last.

Your dissing of man-made global warming is not the conclusion of the scientists actually studying it. The truth is not automatically going to make you happy.
