Barron Collier High School Bel Canto Choir singing "Candlelight Carol" at the winter 2007 concert.

How do you capture the wind on the water
How do you count all the stars in the sky
How can you measure the love of a mother
Or how can you write down a baby's first cry

Candlelight, angel light, fire light, and star glow
Shine on his cradle till breaking of dawn
Gloria! Gloria in excelsis deo
Angels are singing
The Christ child is born

Shepherds and wise men will kneel and adore him
Seraphim round him their vigil will keep
Nations proclaim him their lord and their savior
But Mary will hold him and sing him to sleep

Candlelight, angel light, fire light, and star glow
Shine on his cradle till breaking of dawn
Gloria! Gloria in excelsis deo
Angels are singing
The Christ child is born

Find him at Bethlehem laid in a manger
Christ our redeemer asleep in the hay
Godhead incarnate and hope of salvation
A child with his mother that first Christmas day

Candlelight, angel light, fire light, and star glow
Shine on his cradle till breaking of dawn
Gloria! Gloria in excelsis deo
Angels are singing
The Christ child is born

  • Hi, I'm writing this comment from Japan.

I sung this song when I was a high school student, in chorus club.

This is one of my favorite song :)

  • yay ! im in 9th grade and our women's chorus is singing this (:

and then our concert choir is singing another John Rutter piece , both veryyy beautiful (:

  • @contreviolone32 There is an orchestral version with organ by the Mormon Tab choir. Look in my favourites.

  • I've never heard this all-female arrangement. Interesting and really nice. (Yeah, the pianist garbled that one spot - see one of the girls in front fight back a smile when it happens - but it's not exactly a walk in the park for the average accompanist - it's in G flat. Cut her some slack. :) )

  • I sang this exact arrangement in H.S..probably my favorite christmas piece I've ever done!!

  • It is SUCH a shame the piano player messes this up.

Otherwise this is definitely the best recording of this song on the web.

  • this is great, i sang this in my choir and i adore this song <3

  • This vid simply moves me to tears! But I prefer the mixed-choir version, accompanied with organ; the orchestral one would be nice too..

Yet it appears to me that no one's posted it..

  • Brilliant!

It's just a shame the piano player cocked it up coming into the last chorus.

  • I first heard this piece performed by a women's chorus from St. Olaf College so I am accustomed to this version. Beautiful job, ladies.
